BNG Brokerage - case study

Client: Gade Property Group
Service: BNG Unit Brokerage & Advisory

Gade Property Group instructed ReVerte to support the sourcing of Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) units for a development requiring off-site compensation. With BNG being a new and rapidly evolving area, the client wanted to ensure complete confidence that their approach, unit selection, and market engagement were fully aligned with legislation.

Our Approach

We used our simple, proven framework to break the brokerage process into clear, manageable steps- allowing the client to make informed decisions with confidence and full regulatory assurance:

We worked with Lauren and the team at ReVerte on a recent scheme requiring BNG units. They quickly understood our project requirements and provided clear guidance throughout the process. Their market insight and practical approach saved us time and gave us confidence we were securing the right solution at the right value. It was a straightforward, professional experience from start to finish.

  • We began with a detailed review of the submitted BNG Metric and all supporting documentation to verify compliance, confirm the accuracy of inputs, and understand the scale and nature of the off-site requirement.

  • We went out to the market to gather all relevant biodiversity unit options within the Local Planning Authority (LPA) and National Character Area (NCA), as well as more bespoke options and opportunities beyond these boundaries. This ensured full visibility of available units and enabled us to identify the best-value options.

  • We benchmarked the quotes received against comparable opportunities further afield, assessing pricing, habitat types, delivery risk, contractual structures, and long-term management obligations. Each option was checked to ensure full alignment with BNG trading rules and policy requirements.

  • We produced a clear comparative report outlining each habitat bank, the units available, pricing structures, contract considerations, and the key pros and cons. We then guided Gade Property Group through the decision-making and allocation process to ensure their BNG obligation was met efficiently, transparently, and in full compliance.

Outcome

We delivered a compliant, transparent brokerage process that enabled Gade Property Group to confidently meet their BNG obligations. By breaking down the complexity of the BNG market into simple, jargon-free insights, we helped the client compare options clearly, secure the most suitable units at competitive rates, and proceed with full regulatory assurance.
